How to Install a Stainless Wire Fence

To begin, drive a 1-pound stake into the ground every 10 feet along the fence's perimeter. Make sure to place a stake at each corner and add two additional stakes four feet away from each corner. These extra stakes will serve as support posts for the corner bracing. Once all the stakes are in place, tie a fluorescent string between them, starting from a corner post. Check the line for straightness, and if it’s not perfectly straight, adjust the position of the stakes accordingly. This taut line will act as your guide when digging the post holes. Before digging, contact your local utility office to check for any buried lines in the area where you'll be placing the fence posts. Accidentally striking a utility line can be dangerous and costly, so this step is crucial for safety and legal reasons. Next, use a post hole digger to excavate holes at each stake location. The depth of each hole should be approximately one-third of the total height of the post. You can rent different sizes of post hole diggers from home improvement stores—some are handheld, while others are designed to attach to tractors for larger jobs. Prepare a concrete mix by combining four parts gravel, two parts sand, and one part cement. This mixture will be used to stabilize the fence posts once they are placed in the holes. Insert each post into its respective hole, making sure it stands upright and is properly aligned for easier wire installation later. Then, fill the hole with the gravel-sand-cement mixture until it reaches ground level. Allow the mixture to dry completely for at least 24 hours before proceeding. Measure the vertical distance from the top of the corner post to the bottom of the support post that was placed four feet away. Cut a support brace to match this length, then secure it to both the corner post and the support post using fencing nails. This will provide added stability to the corners. Starting at a corner, wrap the stainless steel wire around the post twice, leaving a two-foot tail at the end. This tail will be used to connect to the next section of the fence. Then, stretch the wire to the next post and secure it with a fencing staple. Be careful not to drive the staple all the way down, as the wire needs to move freely during the tensioning process. Repeat this for the next four posts. Once the first section of wire is in place, set up the wire stretcher according to the manufacturer’s instructions on the last post. Pull the wire tight and hold it in place with the stretcher. Then, go back and fully drive in the staples on the previous posts to lock the wire in position. Release the tension from the stretcher and continue stringing the wire for the next four posts. Repeat the stretching process again once the next section is in place. When you reach the final post, stretch the wire tightly using the stretcher and wrap it around the post at least two times. Take the remaining wire tail and wrap it back along the stretched wire. Then, release the stretcher. Return to the starting corner and repeat the entire process for the next row of stainless wire, adjusting the height as needed for your fence design. This ensures a consistent and professional-looking fence.
