To begin, place a 1-pound stake every 10 feet around the fence's perimeter. Make sure to position one at each corner and add two more stakes, four feet away from each corner. These will serve as support posts for the corner bracing. Attach a fluorescent string to one of the corner stakes and stretch it between the other stakes. Check the line for straightness, and if needed, adjust the position of the stakes to ensure accuracy. This line will act as your guide when digging the post holes.
Before digging, contact your local utility office to check for any buried lines in the area. Accidentally striking a utility line can be extremely dangerous and costly. Once confirmed safe, use a post hole digger to excavate holes at each stake location. The depth of each hole should be approximately one-third the length of the post. You can rent different sizes of post hole diggers from home improvement stores—some are hand-held, while others can be attached to tractors.
Prepare a mixture consisting of four parts gravel, two parts sand, and one part cement. This blend will help stabilize the posts once they are placed in the holes. Insert each post into its respective hole, ensuring it is straight and properly oriented for easier wire installation later. Fill the hole with the gravel-sand-cement mix until it’s level with the ground. Allow at least 24 hours for the mixture to set.
Next, measure the distance from the top of the corner post to the bottom of the nearby support post. Cut a support brace to match this length. Secure the top of the brace to the corner post using fencing nails, and attach the bottom of the brace to the support post located four feet away.
Start at a corner and wrap the stainless wire around the post twice, leaving a two-foot tail at the end. Wrap the tail around the wire that will run along the fence line. Then, string the wire to the next post and use a fencing staple to hold it in place. Be careful not to drive the staple all the way down, as the wire needs to move freely during stretching. Repeat this process for the next four posts.
Set up the wire stretcher according to the manufacturer’s instructions on the last post. Stretch the wire tightly, then return to the previous posts and fully drive the staples into place. Release the tension from the stretcher and continue stringing the wire for the next four posts. When you reach the end, pull the wire tight again using the stretcher.
Once the wire is taut, wrap it at least two times around the final post. Take the remaining wire tail and wrap it back along the stretched wire. Let go of the stretcher and secure everything in place.
Finally, return to the starting corner and repeat the process for the next row of stainless wire at your desired height. This ensures a consistent and sturdy fence structure. Always double-check the alignment and tension throughout the entire project for optimal results.
