What Exactly Is Plastic Flooring?

Plastic flooring is a lightweight and versatile material that has become increasingly popular worldwide. It's often referred to as "light body material" due to its ease of installation and durability. This type of flooring is especially popular in countries like Japan, South Korea, and across Europe, and it has been around since the early 1980s. In China, it has gained widespread acceptance in major cities and is now commonly found in homes, hospitals, schools, office buildings, factories, public spaces, supermarkets, commercial areas, and even sports facilities.

The term "plastic floor" can sometimes be confusing. Originally, it referred to floors made from polyurethane (PU), which are typically used for outdoor sports fields. However, these materials can release harmful substances, so they are rarely used indoors. That’s why indoor sports facilities often opt for other types of flooring instead.

Interestingly, the understanding of "plastic floor" in China today is quite different from the original definition. Nowadays, when people talk about plastic flooring, they usually refer to PVC (polyvinyl chloride) flooring. PVC flooring comes in two main types: homogenous and composite. Homogenous PVC flooring has a consistent pattern throughout the entire thickness, while composite PVC flooring consists of a transparent top layer, a printed design layer, and a foamed base layer. Both types offer excellent durability, aesthetics, and cost-effectiveness, making them ideal for a wide range of applications.
