Peanut late management technology points

Peanut management plays a crucial role in determining the yield and quality of the crop. It is essential to implement proper practices during the later growth stages to ensure high-quality, high-yield harvests. The following are key techniques for effective peanut field management: One important practice is foliar fertilization. As peanuts enter their late growth stage, root absorption capacity declines, making them more prone to nutrient deficiency and early aging. When signs of nutrient deficiency appear, it is recommended to spray the leaves with a 1% to 2% urea solution or a 2% to 4% potassium phosphate solution. This should be done every 5 to 7 days, and up to 2 to 3 times if necessary. This method helps improve disease resistance and boost productivity by supporting the plant through its critical growth phase. Maintaining appropriate soil moisture is also vital. While water needs decrease compared to the mid-growth stage, irrigation may still be required during dry periods. Dry soil can hinder the photosynthesis process in stems and leaves. However, overwatering should be avoided, as excessive moisture can negatively affect pod development and even lead to rotting of the fruits. Controlling pests and diseases is another critical aspect. In the late growth stage, peanuts are vulnerable to leaf spot, rust, and aphids. Leaf spot can be managed by spraying a 70% mancozeb or 75% chlorothalonil solution diluted at a ratio of 500 times. To prevent rust, 30% wettable powder (WP) of rust-fighting agent can be applied at a rate of 50 grams per 50 kg of water. For aphid control, a 3% acetamiprid emulsifiable concentrate diluted at 1000 times is effective. Harvesting at the right time is essential for maximizing both yield and quality. Timely harvesting ensures that most pods have reached maturity, reducing the risk of damaged or rotten pods. It is important to monitor the field regularly and harvest when the majority of the pods are ready. Source: Farmers Daily Author: Mayi Yong Ma Fangfang
