Here are some essential tips for maintaining solid wood flooring:

1. Keep the floor clean and dry at all times. Avoid using excessive water or alkaline cleaning agents, as they can damage the finish and cause discoloration. For light dirt or dust, use a dry mop or a slightly damp mop that has been wrung out thoroughly. It’s recommended to apply wax once a month or every two months, making sure to clean any water spots or stains before waxing.

2. If there is any water leakage or moisture on the floor, wipe it up immediately. Do not expose the floor to direct sunlight or heat sources like ovens, as this can cause the wood to dry too quickly and crack over time.

3. Avoid leaving plastic sheets or newspapers on the floor for extended periods, as they can trap moisture and make the surface sticky or dull. Also, avoid placing hot items directly on the floor—use mats or cloth pads instead to protect the finish from heat damage.

4. If the floor gets stained, act quickly to remove it. For oil stains, use a soft cloth with warm water or a small amount of mild detergent. Neutral soapy water can also be used for gentle scrubbing. If the stain is stubborn, try lightly sanding with fine-grit sandpaper or a steel wool pad. For ink, dye, or medicine stains, wipe with a cloth dampened in furniture wax first. If that doesn’t work, gently rub with a steel wool pad and reapply wax. For burn marks from cigarette butts or ink stains, use a wax-dampened cloth to restore the surface. If necessary, follow up with a steel wool pad and wax for better results.

5. After installation, avoid exposing the floor to direct sunlight for long periods, as UV rays can cause fading, cracking, and premature aging. When placing furniture on the floor, use rubber pads or felt protectors to prevent scratches on the finish.

6. If the floor boards become lifted or peeled, remove them promptly, clean off old adhesive and debris, then reapply new glue and press them firmly. If individual sections have damaged paint, use 400-grit wet sandpaper with soapy water, then wipe and dry. Apply color to match the rest, then seal with lacquer. After 24 hours, sand again with 400-grit paper and polish with wax for a smooth, glossy finish.
