Anticorrosive wood installation method and maintenance plan

As life becomes more prosperous, people are increasingly investing in the renovation of their outdoor terraces. A popular choice for these spaces is rustic-style terraces featuring treated wood flooring. Treated wood is now widely used in outdoor environments, such as in garden landscapes, flower stands, planters, wooden planks, decks, and balconies. However, even though it’s common, improper installation or lack of maintenance can significantly shorten its lifespan. Below are some essential tips on how to properly install and maintain treated wood for long-lasting results. First, it’s important to allow the outdoor wood to dry naturally in open air until it reaches a moisture level similar to that of the surrounding environment. Installing wood with high moisture content can lead to warping, cracking, and other structural issues over time. At the construction site, treated wood should be stored in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight. Exposure to excessive heat can affect the wood’s integrity and reduce its effectiveness. When working with treated wood, try to use it in its original size as much as possible. If cutting or drilling is necessary, make sure to fully coat all cut ends and holes with the appropriate preservative. This helps maintain the wood’s protective qualities and extends its service life. When building a terrace, it’s best to use longer planks to minimize joints and improve the overall appearance. Leave a small gap—between 5mm to 10mm—between each board to allow for natural expansion and contraction due to weather changes. All connections should be made using galvanized or stainless steel fasteners. Avoid mixing different types of metal, as this can cause rusting and weaken the structure over time. Rust not only looks unsightly but can also compromise the stability of the entire project. When drilling or cutting, always start with an electric drill to create pilot holes before securing with screws. This prevents the wood from splitting or cracking during installation. Although treated wood is resistant to fungi, mold, and termites, it’s still advisable to apply a wood protective paint after the project is completed. Once the wood has dried or been air-dried, use an outdoor-specific paint and shake it thoroughly before application. Allow at least 24 hours of direct sunlight to ensure proper drying and film formation on the surface. By following these guidelines, you can enjoy a beautiful, durable, and low-maintenance outdoor space for years to come.
