Select the security door to see several indicators

The full name of the security door is "anti-theft security door." As its name suggests, it should offer strong anti-theft and security features. However, in reality, the level of protection varies among different models. With so many options available on the market, how can consumers choose a reliable product? Han Zhibao, president of the Nanjing Unlocking Association, shared some key criteria to help readers make an informed decision.

One important factor is whether the door has an anti-theft rating. The new national standard has updated the classification from three levels to four: "A," "B," "C," and "Ding." Grade A is the highest, followed by B, C, and D. The time required for forced entry should be no less than 30 minutes for A-grade doors, 15 minutes for B-grade, 10 minutes for C-grade, and 6 minutes for D-grade. These ratings are usually marked with letters like "J," "Y," "B," and "D" on the inside of the hinge side, at a height of around 1600 mm from the ground. This mark is permanent, so when purchasing a security door, always check if this label is present. If not, it might just be a regular steel door.

Another key consideration is the number of locks. The new standard requires a minimum of 12 lock points for A-grade doors, 10 for B-grade, 8 for C-grade, and 6 for D-grade. While more lock points generally mean better resistance to tampering, it's not always true that more equals better. For example, even a Class A door with 12 lock points may still have all of them controlled by a single cylinder. Therefore, it's essential to check the grade of the lock itself. In China, locks are categorized into three grades: A, B, and Super B (the best). Additionally, the main lock should be at least 16 mm long to ensure stronger security.

The thickness of the steel plate is another critical factor in determining the quality of a security door. According to the new standards, the frame should be at least 2 mm thick, and the door body should be over 20 mm. The overall weight should be more than 40 kg. The specific thickness for each grade is as follows: A and B require 2 mm, C needs 1.8 mm, and D requires 1.5 mm. In terms of materials, copper doors are the most secure but also the most expensive, followed by stainless steel and aluminum alloy doors.

To get a better understanding of the internal structure of the door, you can remove components like the peephole or doorbell box. This allows you to see the thickness of the steel, whether there is any filling material that helps with fire resistance or sound insulation, and whether the front and back panels are properly connected without gaps. These details can significantly affect the overall security and durability of the door.

If you want to enhance the security further, you can add additional protective elements. For example, installing a tamper-proof cover on the lock or adding a reinforced peephole device can increase the door’s security level. These small modifications can go a long way in making your home safer.
