When installing KOYO bearings, it's essential to check the straightness of the shaft's axial line and the shaft itself. One effective method is to fix a dial gauge on the casing end surface and touch the bearing raceway of the shaft. If the pointer wobbles, it indicates that the axial line is not aligned with the centerline of the shaft. For deep housing holes, an extended dial gauge can also be used for accurate measurement. 1. **Surface Defects (Peeling and Folding):** Some defects such as peeling or folding are not well bonded to the base metal. These areas often show decarburization or carbon depletion, leading to material collapse, embossing, or wear. Such issues significantly affect the bearing’s life and precision. 2. **Mechanical Scratches:** Scratches, abrasions, dents, and bumps can cause improper installation, resulting in eccentric loads and stress concentration. This reduces the bearing's rotational accuracy and service life. 3. **Cage Quality (Riveting and Welding):** Check if the rivet heads are properly aligned, not skewed, loose, or missing material. Ensure the welding direction is correct and the weld joints are not too large. Poor cage quality can lead to damage and instability during operation. 4. **Cracks:** Original cracks, casting cracks, heat treatment cracks, and grinding cracks are dangerous. These flaws can act as stress concentrators, leading to further crack propagation and potential failure. Bearings used in critical applications undergo 100% magnetic or radiographic inspection. 5. **Corrosion and Surface Damage:** Rust, black skin, and pitting are signs of poor storage conditions, often due to moisture and dirt. Corrosion can lead to early wear, fatigue, and even render the bearing unusable. Proper installation ensures the bearing seat allows the rolling elements to move freely, keeping them correctly positioned between the inner and outer raceways. If installed incorrectly, the bearing may not function properly, and the mating surfaces could suffer severe wear. Since the difference between the inner and outer rings is subtle, care must be taken to avoid mistakes. Additionally, there should be a 0.5mm clearance between the bearing and the housing hole to allow for minor manufacturing tolerances and ensure smooth operation. Without this clearance, misalignment may occur, causing collisions and potential damage.
