Common problems in wallpaper construction and solutions to damp wall surface

If the wall has already been affected by moisture, allow it to dry for one to two months first. After that, apply a cement-based water-repellent slurry to create a protective layer against future dampness. Then, fill any cracks or holes with gypsum putty. Once the putty has dried, sand the surface smooth using sandpaper. Finally, apply a primer twice using a paint roller or spray gun onto the clean and dry wall surface. This will prepare the wall properly for the next stage of finishing work.

Second, when it comes to wallpapering, there are several common wall issues you may encounter and solutions to handle them:

1. Smooth Wall: A very smooth wall can be difficult to adhere wallpaper to because it doesn’t absorb glue well and dries too quickly. To fix this, lightly sand the surface to improve adhesion and ensure better bonding.

2. Powdery Wall: If the wall feels dusty or flaky, it means the surface is weak and needs preparation. Sand the area to remove loose particles, then level the surface. Afterward, apply a high-quality varnish or use a more suitable wallpaper base coat. Once dry, you can safely apply the wallpaper.

3. Cracked Putty: If the existing putty is not firm and tends to crack, mix in more white glue into the putty to strengthen it and prevent cracking during the drying process.

4. Flat Putty: For easier sanding, add a small amount of white glue to the putty. Alternatively, you can use a mixture of gypsum powder and white glue instead of traditional putty. This helps speed up the drying time and makes the overall construction process more efficient.
