China established a national rare earth industry association

On April 8, 2012, the long-established China Rare Earth Industry Association was finally established in Beijing. The association includes 155 members including Chinalco, Minmetals, Baotou Steel Group and Luzhou Rare Earth, including almost all rare earth enterprises in China. As a federation of enterprises, the association will play an important role in properly solving international trade disputes in the future. In mid-March, the United States, Europe and Japan joined forces in the WTO to file a lawsuit against the so-called Chinese restrictions on the export of rare earth elements, thus pushing China's rare earth issue on the cusp of international trade disputes; if there is an association in China, it actively responds through unofficial channels. It will undoubtedly open up new ways to promote problem solving. The newly established association is a national first-level industry association initiated by 13 companies including the Nonferrous Metals Association, Chinalco, Minmetals and China Nonferrous Metals, and 142 companies across the country. Member companies cover all aspects of the industrial chain such as mining, smelting, separation and application of rare earth industry in China. Members of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Land and Resources, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Commerce and other members of the Rare Metals Inter-Ministerial Coordination Mechanism and officials of relevant departments of the State Council attended the meeting of the establishment of the Association. The president of the association is Qian Yong, the vice president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Gan Yong is also the chairman of the China Rare Earth Society. At the inaugural meeting, Su Bo, deputy director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that China Rare Earth Industry Association will actively provide support and services for the management of relevant departments and local governments; carry out industry self-discipline, corporate rights protection, etc., actively coordinate research units, production enterprises, downstream users. Relationship, standardize industry order, etc. Zhang Anwen, deputy secretary general of the China Rare Earth Society, told reporters that the main functions of the society are academic exchanges, and naturally there will be no more involvement in the coordination of international trade frictions. The association is a consortium representing enterprises, and the association will make a difference in this regard. Su Bo also said that China will continue to carry out environmental management of the rare earth industry, implement stricter environmental exploitation policies for rare earth resources, and accelerate the formation of large-scale rare earth enterprise groups.
