Weihai City has recently launched a trial operation of its intelligent bus dispatching system on routes 14 and 47, with plans to expand the system to cover all bus lines by the second half of the year. As the core of the city's smart public transportation network, the intelligent dispatching system plays a vital role in optimizing urban mobility. On April 25, a reporter visited the Weihai Bus Group's Intelligent Dispatching Center to explore how this advanced technology is transforming the way buses operate.
One of the key functions of the system is real-time monitoring and scheduling. At 3 p.m. on that day, as the reporter arrived at the information center, staff members were closely observing the operations of Bus No. 14. Through the "monitoring and dispatching system" displayed on the computer screen, they saw a sequence of numbers flickering between “City Standing†and “Wan Tsui House Park.†The staff explained that these numbers represented the location of Bus No. 14, which was en route from the municipal government site to Wan Tsui Building Park.
The head of the operations department explained that the dispatch center acts as the “brain†of the intelligent public transport system, allowing for real-time tracking of bus positions, speeds, and overall coordination. The system consists of two main parts: the monitoring and dispatching system, and the video surveillance system. The former is particularly powerful, enabling efficient management of bus operations.
For instance, during the observation of Bus No. 47, the staff noticed that two buses were too close together near the Innovation Building, raising the risk of “serial trains,†where multiple buses arrive at the same stop simultaneously, potentially leading to empty runs. The dispatcher immediately alerted the rear driver via voice, saying, “This bus is too close to the previous one, please slow down appropriately.†Shortly after, the distance between the buses increased.
Through the large screen in the dispatch center, operators can monitor the exact locations, routes, speeds, and directions of all controlled buses in real time. If issues like “serial trains†or “large gaps†arise, the system enables timely scheduling to optimize vehicle deployment, improving both efficiency and service quality. Additionally, if a bus exceeds the speed limit, the system alerts the driver and the dispatch team.
Beyond vehicle scheduling, the monitoring and dispatching system also manages driver assignments, ensuring smoother operations across the network.
Another essential component of the intelligent dispatching system is the video surveillance subsystem. This system not only helps the company better manage drivers but also provides critical evidence for resolving disputes on board. Each bus is equipped with four cameras, capturing footage from the front, inside, back, and outside of the vehicle. These cameras are used to monitor passenger behavior and prevent incidents such as drivers ignoring passengers or engaging in inappropriate conduct.
For example, when a passenger complained about a driver’s attitude on Route 14, the company reviewed the video footage and found that the driver had already attempted to calm the situation. The video helped clarify the incident and resolved the dispute without relying solely on one-sided accounts.
Moreover, the video system allows the company to monitor drivers for unsafe behaviors like chatting or smoking while driving, further enhancing safety and discipline.
Finally, the smart terminal system ensures a more user-friendly experience for passengers. Updated buses now feature electronic displays at the front, serving as intelligent vehicle-mounted terminals. These terminals offer features like satellite positioning, automatic station announcements, onboard monitoring, and intelligent dispatching. The automatic station reporting function is especially helpful for tourists and elderly passengers, reducing the chance of them missing their stops.
According to the operations department, the intelligent terminal also sends real-time updates about the bus’s status back to the dispatch center. Its onboard monitoring system continuously tracks the vehicle’s condition, ensuring safe and reliable operations. Overall, the integration of these technologies marks a significant step forward in making public transportation in Weihai more efficient, safe, and passenger-friendly.

5. good resistance to infiltration and erosion.
Low porosity clay brick as a good clay refractory brick products, so often used in chemical erosion, temperature fluctuations in the environment, such as steel, glass, chemical industry. The effect is quite obvious in the use of glass hot room and the use of iron water tank.
