The main methods for accurately aligning keyway tools without using any tools are the following:

(l) When milling the keyway with a keyway cutter or an end mill on a vertical milling machine, correct the workpiece axis by means of a dial gauge, and after clamping it securely, place the tool approximately near the axis of the workpiece to start Cut in the middle. When the rotating tool slowly approaches the workpiece, when the tool comes into contact with the workpiece, two arc-shaped tool marks are drawn on the workpiece. According to the position of the tool mark, the direction of the tool to the axis of the workpiece can be judged. When the test cutter marks are symmetrically distributed in the center of the workpiece, it can be concluded that the tool has been accurately positioned on the axis of the workpiece. If the keyway milling cutter is not used and the keyway is milled with a cylindrical milling cutter, the alignment method is the same as above. The only difference is that the cylindrical cutter has a test cutter mark formed on the workpiece, which is slightly wider than the keyway cutter.

(2) The keyway is machined by a horizontal milling machine. The tools used are generally disc-shaped three-sided blades or saw blade milling cutters. When these disc-shaped cutters are offset from the workpiece axis, the trial-cutting tool marks are asymmetrical and non-closed. Round curve. When the tool is centered, the test blade marks become a symmetrical oval.

(3) As for the keyway in the hole of the disc-shaped part, if it is processed by the inserting machine, the slot cutter must first be installed correctly and cannot be skewed.

For the middle test, if the slot cutter is to the right, the tool draws two straight knife marks on the wall of the hole from top to bottom. When the tool is to the left, the knife mark is thicker and thinner. If the two trial cuts are equally thick, the tool is just in the center of the hole. The alignment method of the keyway cutter described above is simple and easy to master, and does not require any special tools. Its greatest feature lies in its accuracy.
