"Rice Gene Resources Innovation and Molecular Technology Breeding" won the first prize for scientific and technological progress

On January 18th, the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government grandly held the Shanghai Science and Technology Award Conference to award awards for the 2007 Shanghai Science and Technology Award-winning units and individuals. In the 2007 Shanghai Science and Technology Awards, a total of 32 agricultural projects won awards. Among them, there are 26 science and technology progress awards, 4 technical invention awards, and 2 natural science awards.

The "Rice Gene Resource Innovation and Molecular Technology Breeding" completed by the Shanghai Center for Agricultural Biology and Genes won the first prize for scientific and technological progress. Through the establishment of rice genetic resources and molecular breeding platforms, the project explores new genes, thereby enriching breeding resources and cultivating more and better new varieties. Its innovation consists in constructing 17 permanent rice mapping groups, fostering five sets of rice introgression populations with genetic backgrounds, establishing an information network system for rice genetic resources and sharing them, and establishing high-throughput molecular marker development and detection technologies. Identifying and classifying techniques of japonica rice and japonica rice; bred six new varieties such as “Zhongyou 448” and passed the national examination and approval, and has cumulatively promoted more than 1,800,000 mu.
