In January 2016, Ningbo Materials took the lead in domestically to achieve a major breakthrough in domestic M55J preparation technology. In September of the same year, the preparation technology was verified and high-strength high-modulus carbon fibers with tensile strength of 4.15 GPa and tensile modulus of 585 GPa were obtained. The continuous and stable production of domestic high-strength high-modulus carbon fiber M55J was realized, and the inter-batch dispersion coefficient of fiber bulk performance was <5%. Subsequently, Ningbo Materials Institute conducted a detailed study on the process analysis, structural studies, and performance optimization of domestic high-strength high-modulus carbon fibers, especially focusing on the study of tensile strength retention of carbon fibers in high-temperature graphitization environments. The recent successful preparation of tensile strength was 5.24GPa. High-strength and high-modulus carbon fibers with a tensile modulus of 593 GPa, compared with Japan Toray M60J high-strength high-modulus carbon fibers (tensile strength 3.92 GPa, tensile modulus 588 GPa), continue to maintain its tensile strength advantage.

High-strength high-modulus carbon fiber has many advantages such as high tensile modulus, small thermal expansion coefficient and dimensional stability, and it has become a key raw material in spacecraft, aerospace and other fields relying on its unique structure and performance advantages. In recent years, domestic high-strength high-modulus carbon fiber has developed rapidly. Ningbo Institute of Materials and Beijing University of Chemical Technology have successively broken through the domestically produced M55J high-strength high-modulus carbon fiber preparation technology. Some domestic companies have also conducted M55J engineering technology research. The breakthrough in the key preparation technology of domestic high-strength high-modulus carbon fiber M60J made by Ningbo Materials will effectively promote the development of technology in this field in China.
