GE gas turbines will power Indian stealth frigates

GE Marine Solutions has announced that its LM2500 marine gas turbine will power the Indian Navy's P17A stealth frigate. The LM2500 marine gas turbine will be supplied by GE's licensed manufacturer, the Hindustan Aerospace Ltd. (HAL) Industrial and Marine Gas Turbine Division in Bangalore, India.

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. will assemble and test the LM2500 marine gas turbine before it is installed on the frigate. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. has obtained a license for the assembly and testing of the Indian Navy's LM2500 gas turbine. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. also received a comprehensive inspection and inspection support for GE's industrial and marine gas turbines including inspection, spare parts, maintenance and equipment overhaul services.

In addition, four GE LM2500 gas turbines will power the Indian Navy's P-71 home-built aircraft carrier, which is expected to be delivered by the end of 2018. The aircraft carrier Vikrant will become the first locally built aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy; the aircraft carrier was launched in August 2013.
