Common basic knowledge of respiratory protection products

Commonly used respiratory protection products are classified into filter type (purification type) and insulation type (air supply type).

The filter-type respirator can only be used in an environment without oxygen deficiency (that is, the content of oxygen in the ambient air is not less than 18%) and in a low-concentration toxic environment. Generally, it cannot be used for the protection of operators in closed tight containers such as tanks and tanks. .

Filter respirator is divided into filter type dust respirator and filter type respirator. The former is mainly used to prevent breathing dust inhalation caused by respiratory dust particles with a particle size of less than 5μ, which is commonly known as dust masks and dust masks; the latter is used to prevent the inhalation of toxic gases, vapors, smoke, etc. through the respiratory tract. For gas masks and gas masks, there are two types, self-priming and air-supply. Currently, self-priming gas respirator is mainly used.

Inspiratory respirator can isolate the wearer's respiratory organs from the polluted environment, supply air or oxygen from the respirator itself, or introduce air from a clean environment to maintain normal human breathing. It can be used in places with life-threatening hazards such as lack of oxygen, severe dust pollution, and unclear conditions. Generally, it is not limited by environmental conditions. According to the form of gas supply is divided into two types of air supply and air-carrying. The self-provided gas source of the air-entraining respirators is a portable type. According to the different air sources, it is divided into an oxygen respirator, an air respirator, and a chemical oxygen respirator. The air supply type is only suitable for jobs with a fixed working range and a small flow range.

When selecting respiratory protection products, consider the nature of hazardous chemicals, the highest concentration of pollutants that may be reached at workplaces, the oxygen content at the workplace, the user's facial features, and environmental conditions.
Respirators are divided into the following categories by function:

Filter-type respiratory protection products: Respiratory protection products that can take inhaled air from the working environment through adsorption, absorption, catalysis, or filtration of purifying components, and remove harmful substances therefrom as a source of air.
Self-priming filter-type respiratory protection products: Filter-type respiratory protection products that rely on the wearer's breathing to overcome the resistance of the parts.
Air Filter Respiratory Protective Products: Filter-type respiratory protective equipment that overcomes resistance due to power (such as electric or manual fans).
Close-fitting mask: A face mask that covers the nose and mouth, or a face mask that covers the eyes, nose, and mouth. Close-fitting masks are divided into half masks and full-face masks.
Isolated Respiratory Protective Equipment: Respiratory protective equipment that isolates the wearer’s breathing apparatus from the working environment, and that uses the air source that is carried by itself or that is relying on the airway tube to introduce a clean air source outside the operating environment.
Air Supply Respiratory Protective Equipment: An insulative respiratory protection device where the wearer introduces clean air through the airway by breathing or by mechanical force.
Air-carried respiratory protection products: The wearer wears air bottles, oxygen bottles, or oxygen generators as a source of isolated respiratory protection products.
Negative Pressure Respiratory Protective Products: A respiratory protective device in which the pressure in the face mask of a user is less than the ambient pressure during the inspiratory phase.
Positive pressure respiratory protection products: A respiratory protection product, the user during any breathing cycle, the mask pressure is greater than the ambient pressure.
Open-type mask: The air-suction device applied to positive-pressure respiratory protection products covers only the eyes, nose, and mouth, and closely forms with the face forming part.
Air Supply Hood: The air delivery device used in positive pressure breathing apparatus can cover the head, eyes, nose, mouth and neck, and can also cover part of the shoulder or be used with protective clothing.
Escape breathing apparatus: Respiratory protection equipment that can only be used to escape from a hazardous environment in an emergency.
