Sols is a company that wants to change the way people walk with 3D printed insoles. Today the company announced that they have secured $11.1 million in financing from Founders Fund, Lux Capital, Tenaya Capital and Melo 7 Tech Partners. The founder of Sols is KeGAn Schouwenburg, who currently works with doctors to provide custom insoles for the deformed foot community. Schouwenburg revealed that after this financing, they will launch a lower-priced 3D printed insole that consumers can purchase directly. The core of Sols' technology lies in the way it collects data. The company said on its homepage that they only need three photos to know the consumer's foot data and use 3D printing technology to produce custom insoles. From printing to final delivery to the consumer, it takes about 6 days before and after. The insole is just a starting point for Sols. The company said they hope to eventually make their products more "smart" and they will use wearable and health tracking technology. They are currently experimenting with 3D printed shoes. Similar to virtual reality technology, 3D printing technology is now in a relatively embarrassing position. Many people have realized the power of 3D printing technology, but it can't change our lifestyle. Schouwenburg was previously the Director of Industrial Engineering at Shapeways, a 3D printing product online marketplace. He believes that Sols will allow consumers to further embrace 3D printing technology.
